The National Flag of New Zealand
Foreign architects can practise independently in New Zealand. There are different routes to registration depending on qualifications and practical experience.
The usual route is to hold a recognised Certificate from an approved school of architecture, complete 140 weeks of practical experience in New Zealand acceptable to the board and pass the Board's Practical Experience Examination.
Applications for registration close in 15 April and 15 October each year.
To discuss your specific case please contact the registrar.
The Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) recommends that qualifications from UK Schools of Architecture be recognised for registration purposes. However, it is likely that the AERB will require you to gain adequate knowledge and experience of the building system and practise of architecture in New Zealand before allowing full registration.
