This prestigious annual, regional awards scheme is aimed at recognising the design ingenuity and architectural excellence of architects and their clients across the East of England for schemes designed within the region. 

The RIBA East Spirit of Ingenuity Awards complement the RIBA Awards and play an important role in drawing public attention to and interest in the innovative architecture in our region.

Spirit of Ingenuity Awards 2012

The Spirit of Ingenuity Awards will now run as the regional part of a tiered awards scheme that includes the Regional Awards, RIBA Awards and Special Awards.

The Awards are currently being judged and the winners will be announced at the RIBA East Awards Dinner on 26th June at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds.

Spirit of Ingenuity Awards 2011

The Spirit of Ingenuity Awards are split into seven categories and the 2011 winners in each category and the RIBA East Building of the Year were announced at our annual Awards Dinner on Friday 30 September 2011 at Homerton College, Cambridge.

The Spirit of Ingenuity Awards are open to practices and individual architects based in the six counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex (excluding London Boroughs), Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The 2011 winners were:

  • Community Architecture Award - St Michael & All Angels Church, Reepham, Norfolk - A Squared Architects
  • Education & Healthcare Award - Challney High School for Girls, Luton - Architects
    Co-Partnership
  • Heritage Award - The Chapter House, Jesus College, Cambridge - Donald Insall Associates
  • Home Award - Private House, Storey's Way, Cambridge - Hudson Architects
  • Residential Design Award
    • Joint winner - The Haven, Norfolk - LSI Architects
    • Joint winner - Bavent House, Suffolk - Hudson Architects
  • Sustainability Award - Green Cottage, Essex - Modece Architects
  • Workspace Award - Monastery Media Centre, Norwich University College of the Arts, Norfolk - Hudson Architects

RIBA East Building of the Decade

To celebrate a decade of RIBA East Spirit of Ingenuity Awards the awards jury looked back at the last ten years of award winners and selected the RIBA East Building of the Decade.

This special award was presented to the building which in the view of the jury best exemplifies a 'spirit of ingenuity' in its design and inception.
