The building is set in an artificial landscape designed to create the rapidly moving water needed by those training and participating in the canoe events in the 2012 Olympic Games. It acts as both a sign and a hide in the landscape.
The landscape's layering of views, heights and planting are key to the integration of water engineering and architecture, adding beauty to physical delight. In legacy mode, maturing woodland will create a natural water park enjoyed by surrounding communities and visitors alike.
