The Victoria Leisure Centre is a new 3,000-square-metre public facility built around a Victorian building. It incorporates swimming pools, gym and fitness studios, a cafe and foyer.
Externally the building offers a large civic frontage to the existing main public square at a scale and in an architectural language appropriate to its civic status. Sitting on a raised plinth, the pool has a large north-lit timber roof structure beautifully finessed with a series of delicate timber diagonal baffles. This is a lovely project.
