RIBA EM Award 2007: Commended

The bringing to life of the Engine Shed opens the facilties of the growing University to the citizens of Lincoln. Sitting at the new gateway onto the Brayford campus it offers a vibrant, open face towards the City, and a chic glass / steel elevation along the side of the future public square. Inside it includes a vast live venue that is accredited on the national gig circuit, bars, shop and the Students Union.

UL Architects have ensured that internally new and old elements complement one another to advantage, the original brickwork . and railway artefacts versus the crisp, strong, bright new elements. This creates a sophisticated space, that is also curiously comfortable, for both smaller seated, and larger (1500 capacity) events .
