The RIBA EMAwards, in association with Ibstock Brick| Ltd, are awarded annually by the Royal Institute of British Architects East Midlands to celebrate excellence in architecture and encourage sustainable design within the East Midlands.
The EMAwards bring the skills of chartered architects to public attention through the following six categories:

East Midlands Award - Buildings or groups of buildings in the East Midlands which are judged to be excellent in their design and construction.

Out of Region Award - Buildings outside of the region, including worldwide, designed by East Midlands chartered architects, that are judged to be excellent in their design and construction.

Low Carbon Award - Buildings or groups of buildings within the East Midlands, which are judged to have made a real attempt at a holistic reduction of their carbon footprint while still maintaining design excellence, demonstrating an architectural lead in, and contribution to, a low carbon society.

OPUN Place Award - Supported by OPUN the architecture centre for the East Midlands region, this new award is for well designed buildings that have given exceptional regard to their setting and have a positive impact on their place and people.

Special Project Award - other creative and exemplary projects relating to the built environment delivered by any class of RIBA Membership.

Student Low Carbon Design Award - Encouraging the early take up of sustainable design principles through The Student Low Carbon Design Award (into which all student entries in category five will automatically be entered).
Categories one to four are open to RIBA chartered architects only. Category five is open to architects and students at recognised schools of architecture in the East Midlands. Category six is for students at recognised schools of architecture only.
