The RIBA EM Awards, in association with Ibstock Brick| Ltd and the East Midlands Development Agency (emda|), are awarded annually by the Royal Institute of British Architects East Midlands to recognize excellence in architecture within the East Midlands region. Twelve buildings received awards in the RIBA EM Awards 2009|.

The skills of chartered architects are brought to public attention through:

  • Buildings or groups of buildings in the East Midlands which are judged to be excellent in their design and construction (Category One).
  • Buildings outside of the region, including worldwide, designed by East Midlands chartered architects, which are judged to be excellent in their design and construction (Category Two).
  • Other creative and exemplary special projects relating to the built environment delivered by any class of RIBA Membership (Category Three).
  • Demonstrating architectural lead and contribution to a Low Carbon society.

The Low Carbon Award for Environmental Initiative into which all shortlisted buildings or groups of buildings in the East Midlands are automatically entered.

The Student Award for Low Carbon Environmental Design into which all student entries into Category Three are automatically entered.
