2014 Talks & Seminars
3 February 2014: Fire Safety
Fire safety legislation in England and Wales is pretty straightforward. Newly constructed, altered or extended buildings should achieve the minimum construction standards as cited in the building regulations. All occupied properties, with the exception of our homes, must be risk assessed by a competent person to ensure that safe means of escape can be facilitated from the property. This latter obligation is required by the regulatory reform (fire safety) order.
3 March 2014: Damp and Decay
Many forms of dampness and decay can affect buildings, but how can you identify the root cause and once established, do you always need to do something about it? This seminar will address the myth that 'there's no such thing as rising damp', as well as discussing penetrating damp, condensation, below-ground waterproofing, fungal and insect decay. Methods of achieving sustainability through correct preservation and simple tips that could solve niggling problems with minimal outlay will also be covered.
