A detailed look at the implications and impact on design and process of two key aspects of Part E and Part L of the Building Regulations.

This half day event will look at two aspects of the design of buildings and how changes in regulation and new developments affect the work of Architects and the management of architectural design. There will be ample time to question the speakers specializing in these subjects.

Energy Performance Certificates.The content of this part of the seminar will cover:

  • the background legislation
  • why EPCs are needed - commercial and residential – and what they are
  • how are they obtained and what are the exceptions
  • how the need for EPCs will influence the design of buildings

Robust Details to satisfy the requirements of part E of the Building Regulations. The content of this part of the session will cover

  • the background legislation and why it is needed
  • what 'robust details' are and how they are used
  • what results have been obtained from the testing programme and the implications
  • how details and testing will influence the design of buildings and what are the alternatives
  • how EcoHomes and the Code for Sustainable Homes are affected

The seminar gives you three hours of general awareness and detailed knowledge CPD under the 'Construction Skills – Statutory Requirements' section of the RIBA Core Curriculum.

Speakers: Dave Baker is CEO of Robust Details Limited. He has been technical director at the HBF, Chief Building Surveyor for a London Borough and a visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster. He is a member of the CIB, RICS and the Association of Building Engineers.

Martin Russell-Croucher is Director Accreditation & Certification RICS, and Chair RICS Sustainability Working Group.
