The aim of this seminar is to future proof architects' knowledge regarding upcoming energy performance design requirements. By taking a holistic approach, it will demonstrate that current dwelling designs may be improved to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 for energy efficiency.
The sessions will cover the following topics:

Improving fabric U-values, and ensuring insulation continuity

Reducing thermal bridging heat losses through better detailing
-
Improving air tightness to reduce air leakage heat losses
-
Provision of Mechanical Ventilation systems with Heat Recovery, SAP
-
Appendix Q, and other improvements to services
The presentations will be followed by a session looking at innovative new products followed by open discussion. Each delegate will receive a pack including copies of the presentations, the recently published Energy Saving Trust Code guidance plus worked examples of constructions/U-values and SAP assessments.
Speakers: Toby Balson Toby is a senior consultant to the Energy Saving Trust Housing Programme and has worked on projects including the Code for Sustainable Homes guides and design work on the UK's first Code level 6 dwelling. Toby works for BRE and is also a qualified SAP and Code for Sustainable Homes assessor.
Steven Stenlund Steven is a senior housing energy consultant to the Energy Saving Trust Housing programme. Having previously worked in building control, he has been involved in leading an industry workgroup in the design of Energy Saving Trust Enhanced Construction Details and contributes to their technical publications. Steven works for BRE.
