Venue:
Clifton Campus, Nottingham Trent University, NG11 8NS
Description:
An event to bring you up to date on aspects of technological development and construction techniques presented by experts in the separate fields of concrete and steel.
Innovative Systems of Residential Building using Concrete: An overview of various options for innovative methods of building using both pre-cast & site-based systems most of which are MMC. Topics and case studies include Insulating Concrete Formwork (ICF), Tunnel Form Construction, Thin Joint Concrete Block Technology, and Twin Wall Panels.
Architectural Concrete Cladding Solutions: A look at the design possibilities of Architectural Precast Concrete with case studies showing all stages from design to site erection of reconstructed and natural stone, brick and terracotta faced cladding and structural sandwich panels. Production techniques and concrete innovations including, translucent, ultra high strength, self-cleaning, pollution reducing, geotextile forming, photo engraving and the latest carousel factories will be included.
Innovations in Structural Steelwork: This presentation will highlight methods and products developed during the past few years to make construction faster, safer, more sustainable and more accurate. Examples of projects where the items have been used will be examined to gauge the benefits and emphasize new or challenging details.
Designing Sustainable Steel Buildings: A review of the Government's Sustainable Construction Strategy and its implications in the use of steel in buildings. Detailed aspects relating to measuring sustainability, carbon foot printing - advantages and limitations and thermal mass. Case studies based on work carried out over the past two years by Michael Sansom of the Steel Construction Institute, design for deconstruction featuring Barrett Steel's recent projects and other new technologies.
Speakers: Carl Sutcliffe is a Regional Architecture and Housing Specialist at The Concrete Centre. He has worked with specifiers and developers in construction for the past eighteen years and has a particular interest in ICF construction.
Jeff Dyson is Head of Housing at The Concrete Centre with twelve years experience as a Design Advisor for a major architectural concrete cladding manufacturer. Offsite manufacture and the development of process driven methods of procurement, delivery and performance based information are key interests.
Walter Swann is Chartered Structural Engineer and a Regional Technical Manager with Corus Long Products. He provides technical support to industrial designers and specifiers particularly in the use of clear span cellular beam applications and steel solutions.
Dave Chapman is a Chartered Structural Engineer and a Regional Technical Manager for Corus. He advises engineers, architects and main contractors on connection design, long span structures and temporary steelwork with a specialism in sporting arena.
