The Social is a London-wide platform set up to encourage architects and people in the creative industries to meet and exchange ideas in alternative settings.
It aims to get designers from all backgrounds together to discuss the built environment and the profession, and benefit from a wider circle of contacts and networks.
Events include life drawing and sporting events, networking, debates and talks. Past events include go-karting with Alsop vs. FAT, a bowling night, and a cheese and wine evening at Tom Dixon's Studio.
Activities are co-ordinated via The Social Committee comprising Laura Broderick, RIBA London, and Nick Lyons, Hamish & Lyons. To suggest event ideas and be added to the mailing list please email email@example.com.
Craft Beer in Clerkenwell
Wednesday 22 May, 7 - 9pm
Our next social is nice and informal - no need to book, though you will need beer money!
We're meeting at 7pm at the The Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell. After sampling and comparing notes on the beers, we'll be heading to see the architect installations made for Clerkenwell Design Week. Mobile Studio, one of the designers, will also be hand to explain their contribution.
This is a great chance to see some of the projects as part of a group. Just drop me a line if you plan to join the outing: firstname.lastname@example.org
We're also hoping the 'craft' theme sparks some future event ideas.
The Social committee launched the 2013 programme with another fantastic great value life drawing series with tutors from London Drawing.
There were three great classes on offer:
Tues 19 Feb: Design Museum
Taking place within the 'Unexpected Pleasures' contemporary jewellery exhibition.
Thurs 28 Feb: Dellow Day Centre
Including a short talk/tour from the architects Featherstone Young before the class.
Thurs 7 March: Roca London Gallery
Within a showroom and gallery designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
Please download the flyer below for further info. You can also see images in the new Social 2013 gallery on our RIBA London facebook pages.
Photography Social, Sept 2012
In 2012 The Social organised some great events in interesting venues. Along with regular sessions such as life drawing and the annual architects vs. planners table football tournament, we held a pecha kucha night, and played carrom and table tennis.
There was also a photography workshop hosted by Moooi London (with beer and bagels) and a 'coffee compendium' at Robin Partington Architects (featuring espresso martinis).
You can view images and discover more about past events co-ordinated by The Social via the RIBA London facebook page: The Social 2012, Games Night, Life Drawing, Table Football, Carrom, Urban Physic Garden.
