CDM Procedures and competence
Tuesday 20 November, 6 - 8pm, RIBA, 66 Portland Place
The CDM Regulations were introduced to encourage construction professionals to eliminate and reduce risks from the very outset of a project. The architectural fraternity is challenged with considering the health and safety implications likely to be associated with their design and take action to minimise foreseeable risks to those who must build, use and maintain a structure.
This seminar is aimed at providing architects with a clear, unambiguous method of both addressing their statutory duties under CDM 2007 within the practice and embracing the opportunities to contribute to health and safety through design. We will look at opportunities to integrate statutory CDM responsibilities in to practice procedures based on a range of case studies on a variety of project types and client types.
The CDM Regulations place a duty on an architect not to accept any appointment unless they are 'competent' to comply with their statutory health and safety obligations. This requirement will be discussed and clarified based on clear deliverables to establish CDM competence.
Speaker: Owen Griffiths, Managing Director, Total CDM Solutions Ltd has over 25 years' experience in the construction industry. His philosophy is on practical application of CDM through good design and effective risk management and is committed to working throughout the design fraternity to promote an integrated approach to compliance. He is also the author of ‘Understanding the CDM Regulations’ and a practicing CDM Co-ordinator. His most prestigious project at present is as CDM Co-ordinator on the London 2012 Olympic Aquatic Centre.
