Forgotten Spaces Exhibition at Somerset House

The Forgotten Spaces 2011 London exhibition at Somerset House| (20 October 2011 - 29 January 2012) showcased innovative proposals for the rejuvenation of neglected spaces in Greater London.

The exhibition followed the hugely popular Forgotten Spaces design competition, which asked architects, artists, local groups and designers to nominate a forgotten space in Greater London and conceive an imaginative and inspiring proposal for its regeneration.

Inhabiting Somerset House's own forgotten spaces – the lightwells and coalholes surrounding the Edmond J Safra Fountain Court and the hidden passage known as the Deadhouse - the exhibition designed by Campaign| and supported by lighting supplier XAL, showcased the shortlisted and winning competition entries. A collection of models, 1:1 installations, images and multimedia pieces illustrated far-reaching proposals for festival firepits in Crystal Palace, artist-inhabited church spires across the City, and urban climbing tunnels under Clapham High Street to name a few.

It is anticipated that RIBA London will run this project again in 2013.
