Bringing legislation to life, engaging communities
Changes are underway to the planning system that are aimed at getting as many people as possible involved in shaping their own areas. In response, RIBA London is seeking to develop a linked up programme of activities aimed at bringing localism to life and ensuring design is seen as an integral part of neighbourhood renewal.
The programme seeks to:
promote skills and services provided by members in London
encourage awareness of design in local areas
enhance connections to business, communities and local government
facilitate interaction with existing neighbourhood and client groups.
In May 2011, the region co-hosted a discussion on this programme. For resources and an event write up see From Whitehall to Wigan: How can we make Localism work?
More information on this and activities around it will be appearing here shortly.
