Tides and Times

Tides and Times - a BBC 21CC and RIBA London Project

RIBA London invites London schools, community groups, cultural institutions and commercial companies to adopt a pod.

The three pods, designed by RIBA architects Alsop, Urban Salon and Amenity Space working with three London primary school groups, are now available to move to new locations and RIBA London welcomes expressions of interest from interested parties.

RIBA London wants to find permanent homes for these vibrant structures that could provide an inspirational addition to any playground, large interior lobby or external courtyard. The structures are unique and are each designed for outdoor use. RIBA London will donate the structures to the three new locations (each worth over £12,300) , however the second homes will incur some relocation costs (labour, transport and repairs ranging from £2,500 - £6,000 depending on the new location and the pod).

Interested parties should contact antonia.faust@inst.riba.org| with details of the proposed new location, host organisation and who would use and benefit from the pod.

Tides and Times is an ambitious and exciting project celebrating the river Thames; exploring the historical, ecological, geographical and social elements of what makes the river so special and such an iconic image of London.

The project introduced 19 primary school groups to 20 London cultural institutions on the river through a series of workshops with art and architecture professionals.

During these workshops the children created multimedia pieces of work with BBC 21CC|, including short films, podcasts and animations about their experience of these riverside attractions.

Three school groups worked with RIBA architects Alsop|, Urban Salon| and Amenity Space |to design three 'pods' to showcase the work. These installations are stationed at Somerset House, Southbank Centre and Southwark Cathedral until the Thames Festival (12th and 13th September).

A connecting route designed by another school group with SCABAL| architects unites the three installations with key Thames-side stops along the way.

The costruction of the pods was supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

The BBC 21CC website displays the multi-media content| created by the children working with design professionals.
