An architect's guide to design management - 'Running Your Practice' Series

08 May 2012

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Venue:

The RIBA, 66 Portland Place

Description:

Architects have a tendency to focus on design, but the environment in which architects work has changed. The three procurement mantras of time, cost and quality have now also become the three essential drivers for clients
determining who designs their buildings:

  • They want a design completed on time at each of the relevant stages
  • They want the design to be on budget
  • They want an excellent design, delivered in line with their quality aspirations.

The speaker will examine some of the design management challenges that are typically encountered and how these might be best handled. He will explain how the design process can be planned, organised and managed, including tactics and soft skills for team leaders, advice on cost, risk and procurement, as well as the key considerations for reconciling a complex iterative design programme against the RIBA Plan of Work.
