The talk will take the audience on a journey through advances in building technology and modelling. It aims to inspire today's heritage visionaries to make yesterday's buildings fit for tomorrow's energy use. The presenters will explore the findings, failures, challenges and solutions, as well as methods and advances that combine innovation and vision to sustain historic building fabric.

A diverse range of projects will be described. These will include the Victorian mansion at Tyntesfield for the National Trust, and climatic preservation of Henry VIII's Tudor warship the Mary Rose. It will also consider more conventional projects such as school conversions, residential retrofitting, and the everyday issue of appropriate choice of technologies. The audience will be invited to help resolve conflict between fabric enhancement for energy and acoustic performance, and retention of existing elements for a Grade II* listed building.

This will be a wide-ranging presentation that considers the practical aspects of preparing our historic buildings to meet the challenges of the future, given by key practitioners in the field.
