Antonio Berardi presents Sedotta e Abbandonata
Directed by Pietro Germi
RIBA London, together with Disegno Magazine, is inviting leading names from architecture, design and fashion to present a film that has been an inspiration in their work. The night will start with a presentation of the film and a Q&A with the person who has nominated it. Following the film guests will be invited to join a drinks reception to encourage debate and discussion over a complimentary drink or two.
Antonio Berardi is a British fashion designer who trained at Central Saint Martins in London. His graduate collection in 1994 caused a stir among London buyers, including Liberty. He launched his first professional collection under an eponymous label for the following season. His trademark elements include body-conscious strong-tailoring, baroque details and the use of progressive fabrics and technology. His design influences include film, music, Catholic symbolism, urban street style and the female form. His latest collection for spring summer 2013 moves towards a more athletic silhouette coupling transparent layers and skater shapes with his signature tailoring.
Sedotta e Abandonata is an Italian film from 1964. A satirical study of the customs and laws within Sicilian society, the story focuses on a miner's daughter who has a tryst with her sister's fiancé. It was chosen by Berardi as a film that has inspired his work but also represents his Sicilian heritage.
