El Ultimo Grito presents Bienvenido Mister Marshall
Directed by Luis García Berlanga
RIBA London, together with Disegno Magazine, is inviting leading names from architecture, design and fashion to present a film that has been an inspiration in their work. The night will start with a presentation of the film and a Q&A with the person who has nominated it. Following the film guests will be invited to join a drinks reception to encourage debate and discussion over a complimentary drink or two.
El Ultimo Grito is a London-based 'post-disciplinary' studio that was founded in 1997. Comprised of Rosario Hurtado and Roberto Feo, its work revolves around how we relate to objects and culture. The format of their work varies depending on the project and which client they are collaborating with. Together they have produced objects and installations that combine the disciplines of product design, graphic design, art, cinema and media. In 2010, they founded SHOPWORK and POI; an independent publishing, research, education and design platform. The studio was awarded this year's London Design Medal for significant contribution to design.
Luis García Berlanga's 1953 film Bienvenido Mister Marshall (Welcome Mr. Marshall!) is the story of a small town in postwar Spain and the anticipation of its inhabitants as to the benefits that the Marshall Plan will bring. El Ultimo Grito picked it because it has a particular resonance with the current economic situation in Europe.
