RIBA North East delivers the services of the Royal Institute of British Architects in the North East Region. It also works closely with RIBA Yorkshire to deliver a number of support services to over 700 RIBA members.
The overarching aim is the advancement of architecture and the delivery of high standards of design and fitness for purpose within the built environment.
Services available through RIBA North East
RIBA North East acts as a co-ordinating body between Chartered Architects, allied building professional and the public in the North East.
Through the regional office, the RIBA is able to respond effectively to the requirements of local Members and the region, providing a vital point of contact between the RIBA and the tiers of regional governance and decision-makers at a local level throughout the North East. By harnessing the knowledge and expertise of those who live and work in the area, RIBA North East is able to promote architecture to a wide audience.
RIBA North East is the smallest administrative region in the United Kingdom, with a population of just over 2.6 million people. The region incorporates the cities of Durham and Newcastle upon Tyne and large metropolitan conurbations including Gateshead, Middlesbrough and Sunderland. The region stretches from Darlington in the south to the Scottish borders and includes the market town of Berwick upon Tweed.
The local Regional Development Agency is One North East and works closely with the two neighbouring RDA's to deliver new policy initiatives on the Government's Northern Way agenda.
RIBA North East is housed in the The School of the Built Environment at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne. We share premises at Northumbria University with other built environment professionals, including:
