The ‘Scape’ Publication series is a series of multi-disciplinary projects, which work across Professional Institutes with architects, planners, urban designers, engineers and landscape architects. The projects are also worked into the curriculum of architecture students at both Newcastle and Northumbria Universities.
The studies are compiled by built environment practitioners, academics, Council officers and students of architecture, who all work in small groups on different aspects of the projects.
The projects allow professionals and students to think the unthinkable. There are no set criteria for the studies to follow; and all participants are given the opportunity to present what sometimes appears to be the impossible. At the point of publication, all recommendations are made to the officers and political leaders of both Newcastle and Gateshead Councils.
The most recent study is BridgeScape, groups have concentrated on land, water and sky, working on how to bridge the River Tyne and Newcastle/Gateshead.
The concept for the Bridgescape study follows on the back of a series of other publications over the last 20 years. These have included Townscape, Cityscape, Riverscape and Euroscape: all examined aspects of Newcastle and Gateshead, either individually or collectively.
Copies of the publications are available free of charge from the regional office.
