dynamic schools of its kind in Europe. The School brings together the disciplines of Architecture, Town Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and Digital Architecture and is home to some of the world's leading researchers in these fields.

The School's teaching programmes are accredited by and have recognition from the following UK bodies:

  • Architects Registration Board

APL is characterised by its long-standing relationship with the development professions. Through teaching, research and consultancy, the School seeks to respond to the needs of these professions as well as influencing their future direction.

The mission of the School is to build on its teaching and research excellence in developing an innovative, multidisciplinary approach to researching and teaching all aspects of architecture, planning, urban design, digital architecture, urban conservation and landscape architecture. In particular the School is building on its existing international strengths in urban regeneration, urban design, environmental sustainability, cities and technology, material culture, international development and construction informatics. The broad emphasis of the School is on making and sustaining places which enhance the quality of life for present and future generations. From our analytical work on understanding contemporary places and place-making to our wide-ranging teaching in planning and design, the School forges new approaches to creating exciting synergies between education, practice and policy-making in the promotion of social cohesion, environmental sustainability and economic development.
