North West leads the way in architectural innovation

 

A record number of buildings in the North West were announced as RIBA Award winners at a ceremony in Liverpool on 28 May 2008.

The full list of winners is:

  • Arena and Convention Centre (ACC), Liverpool designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects
  • The Bluecoat, Liverpool designed by Biq Architects (Executive Architects - Austin-Smith:Lord / Conservation Architects - Donald Insall Associates)
  • Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Neston designed by Sheppard Robson
  • Postgraduate Statistics Centre, Lancaster University designed by John McAslan + Partners
  • Private House, Bowdon designed by Stephenson Bell Architects
  • Hilton Tower, Manchester designed by Ian Simpson Architects
  • John Rylands University Library, Manchester designed by Austin-Smith:Lord (Conservation Architects - Lloyd Evans Prichard)
  • Manchester Civil Justice Centre, Manchester designed by Denton Corker Marshall
  • Abito Apartments, Manchester designed by BDP
  • Chimney Pot Park, Salford designed by Shedkm
  • Guest Street Housing, Manchester designed by De Metz Forbes Knight Architects

Roger Stephenson, Chair of RIBA North West, said: "The 11 winners once again demonstrate the remarkably high standard of architecture in the North West.  We were delighted with the standard of entries and firmly believe that the region can proudly boast of having some of the most exciting architecture in the UK today."
