This substantial house, in the Lake District National Park, is approached at an upper level, allowing its scale to be concealed within the landscape. Dry stone walls anchor the building to the land and a slate roof is punctuated by circular stone chimneys. On the side facing the river, the greater scale is reduced by an undulating timber-clad wall.
The project is characterised by the commitment to craftsmanship and the use of found materials within a contemporary design.
