RIBA South West Town and Country Design Awards
The award scheme looks at the impact of new and converted buildings in both rural and urban settings and aims to highlight the contributions made by any RIBA member or RIBA chartered practice working within the Wessex and South West regions and Channel Islands.
The Town and Country Design Awards scheme aims to highlight the contributions made by talented architects who are working within the Wessex and South West regions or the Channel Islands. Buildings are judged in its setting, considering fitness for purpose, consistency of design, use of materials and whether a building is likely to remain a fine work of architecture throughout and even beyond its full working life.
Reward and recognition are fundamental to the principle of the RIBA's aim to advance architecture by demonstrating benefit to society and promoting excellence in the profession. In making the Town & Country Design Awards the RIBA Wessex & South West regions are recognising that buildings do not exist in isolation and that design excellence exists within a local context. Town & Country Design Awards are given in recognition of this excellence in architectural design in the context of the region.
The Awards apply to buildings completed in the RIBA Wessex and South West regions (Bath, Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire and the Scilly Isles).
The Awards comprise five categories and one overall award for excellence:
-
The Ibstock Premier Award – supported by Ibstock
-
Residential Award – supported by 4D Lighting
-
Workspace Award
-
Housing Scheme Award
-
Conservation Award – supported by The Rooflight Company
-
Sustainability Award – supported by Groundwork South West
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Autumn 2010 at an award-winning regional location.
RIBA Awards
The RIBA Awards recognise excellence in architecture and are respected worldwide. They honour those who commission and build, as well as those who design.
All RIBA awards are national awards, submitted and judged on a regional basis.
From these awards are selected shortlists which are visited and judged for further awards including the RIBA Stirling Prize and a series of special awards.
