A challenging year for entries for the RIBA Town & Country Design Awards. South West projects have provided 58 entries this year from RIBA practices both within and without the region, leading to 13 projects shortlisted for visits and a fascinating 900 mile road trip taking in every extremity of our beautiful and diverse region.
The awards are given in recognition of architectural excellence in the context of the region and the addition of the Western Daily Press Community award has highlighted the importance that place-making has on the communities it serves with many public votes placed online.
Awards were handed out at an enjoyable evening of celebration at the Future Inn, Cabot Circus, Bristol. The evening was hosted by Chief Executive of the UK Green Building Council Mr Paul King.
The evening raised money for the Architects Benevolent Society through a prize draw with a top prize of a weekend break at the Scarlet Eco Hotel at Mawgan Porth, Cornwall designed by Harrison Sutton Architects.
Please enjoy the best of the South West and keep an eye out for the RIBA Town and Country Design Awards in 2010.
Best Wishes
