Over 70 entries were received in 2007 by regional and national architects, with the jury visiting 14 fantastic projects across the length and breadth of the south west in all 8 counties and unitary authorities that make up this geographically contrasting region.
In an exciting innovation, the RIBA partnered with BBC Inside Out and Point West to give the public their say on the buildings which made the region proud. Public involvement enriches the strength of architecture in a social context, and it was hoped to extend this aspect of the awards in 2008.
Awards were presented at a very enjoyable evening ceremony at Paintworks cultural quarter in Bristol, attended by over 150 guests, representing the shortlisted projects and a host of sponsors and key individuals.
The Royal Institute of British Architects has a long tradition of leading public awareness of excellent design, and all the projects featured in the awards were designed by RIBA architects.
