Genuinely stunning in concept and detail, the new offices and studios for Aardman Animations provides an environment which fully responds to and reflects the working ethos of the Client.

Two wings of generally open plan offices communicate and interact across a central, tapering atrium housing vertical circulation and informal meeting areas. The sense of drama and community is palpable. The atrium and offices are naturally lit and airy and in tandem with a pragmatic and flexible environmental strategy provide an uplifting working space.

The form and scale of the building responds to the historic industrial nature and grain of the site whilst a creative and free approach to the window distribution on the public face allows unexpected and tantalising glimpses of the interior and provides a showcase for some of the production company’s iconic characters.

This is a crafted and wholly considered three-dimensional democratic space which promotes and celebrates fun on equal terms with efficiency, and community and belonging on equal terms with private space and work. Every office space in every city should be this good.
