19 May 2010
2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Venue:
The Harry Hems Centre, Exeter
Description:
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations have placed significant statutory health and safety obligations on designers in the construction industry.
Refurbishment projects generally have been identified by the Enforcement Authority as a high risk area. They often involve demolition, asbestos, structural alterations,
confined spaces, dust, noise and vibration. Opportunities may then present themselves for architects to minimise these issues through effective, and often simple, design choices.
This seminar will focus on the practical application of design risk management based around several examples of effective design solutions in a refurbishment
environment. The speaker will suggest that CDM compliance is no more than good design and an integral element of buildability and maintainability. This event will
demystify CDM and give the attendees the confidence to practically comply and make a demonstrable contribution to health and safety management on refurbishment projects.
