24 May 2011

2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Venue:

The Harry Hems Centre, Exeter

Description:

*Please note this is the rearranged date from 9 March*

This seminar will present a broad view of managing construction contracts with a particular
emphasis on:
Communication
Those working in the construction industry are required to be able to communicate effectively and
correctly in order to administer contracts, manage the construction process and satisfy their own
responsibilities, or those for whom they work, as well as needing to be able to secure the position
in law and negotiate on a regular basis. This seminar will review how to communicate, how to
give notices and certificates, the issues to be considered in communications, the techniques,
structure, content and purpose of common forms, correspondence, negotiation and various
aspects of administration and the consequences of failure to communicate.
Programming
The purpose of financial reporting is to aid in the overall financial management of a project, by
providing a profile of expected costs and an indication of when they will be incurred. The speaker
will discuss in detail the requirements of a compliant programme, the consequence of
programming and target completion, critical path and concurrency.
Events
The seminar will review the role of the Project Manager in providing an efficient and cost effective
method of delivering a project from inception through to completion and highlight elements to take
into consideration such as events under JCT 2005 and NEC3 Contracts, time bar and silence.

Speaker: Robert Shawyer, Alway Associates specialises in Construction Law and disputes including vetting and drafting contracts, collateral warranty and administration systems, and provides legal advice.
