RIBA Wessex Looking Forward Architecture Forum and Tour

29 February 2012

5:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Venue:

Rook Lane Arts, Frome

Description:

Localism and opportunities for architects

Localism will present both challenges and opportunities for all professions involved in the built environment. Architects have a real opportunity to use their skills and expertise to help communities make the most of their new planning powers and create exciting and bold visions for the future of their areas. This new process will be dependent on their ability to appropriately engage with local people and local issues, right from the beginning, designing 'with' rather than 'for' communities.

Chaired by RIBA Wessex chair Rob Mitchell, and featuring James Parkinson, RIBA Policy Officer on Guide to Localism: Opportunities for Architects and Jonathan Platt of GCP Chartered Architects| talking about community engagement including on the M32 Junction 3 mixed-use development at Easton, Bristol. There will be opportunity for questions and discussion at this new event from the RIBA in the region.

Refreshments and a presentation/tour of Rook Lane Arts will take place following the Forum. This forum is open to members and non-members.
