Description:
This session will aim to provide an insight into the barriers and challenges faced by disabled people. It will also provide an update on disability and equality legislation and the design guidance that is available to inform the provision and development of truly inclusive environments.
This seminar will cover:

Key facts and figures on disability and the environment including spatial, visual, aural and acoustic principles; sensory impairments; wayfinding and signage; external environments and fire and emergency Egress (PEEPS etc)

Introduction to legislative framework including Disability Discrimination Act 1995, 2005 and Equality Act 2010; Fire Safety Order; Planning Legislation and Access and Building Regulations and Access Statements for England and Wales

Introduction to Design Guidance covering Approved Document M, BS8300:2009, Lifetime Homes, CSH credits and other good practice design standards.
This session will include quizzes, case studies and experimental training such as Sim Specs.
