City CPD Club - 1 October 2013

01 October 2013

9:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Venue:

Milford Hall Hotel, 206 Castle Street, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP1 3TE

Description:

Healthy design and creative safety for architects

Butler and Young Consultants’ approach to the application of health and safety in construction reflects the current thinking of the HSE and RIBA. In this seminar, we look to see how this is put into practice using case studies. Examples of projects completed, or in progression, will highlight how good practice of Design Risk Management meets the requirements of specific legislation without being bogged down in the detail.

NPPF and planning approval

The UK Government’s new planning reforms (National Planning Policy Framework or NPPF) have resulted in the biggest and fastest changes to the planning system in 50 years. These reforms will result in a presumption in favour of sustainable development and present a huge opportunity for commercial developers and house builders, as long as they are able to demonstrate the sustainable credentials of a scheme and a willingness to engage with local neighbourhoods at the planning stage.

Pros and cons of low carbon technologies

This seminar will provide an up to date impartial look at the different low carbon technologies available for residential and small scale commercial projects analysing the pros and cons of each. We will look at the following technologies and how they work, their size and application: renewable electricity (PV, wind, hydro), renewable heat (solar thermal, heat pumps, biomass) and combined heat and power (anaerobic digestion and steam CHP).
