Healthy design and creative safety for architects

Butler and Young Consultants’ approach to the application of health and safety in construction reflects the current thinking of the HSE and RIBA. In this seminar, we look to see how this is put into practice using case studies. Examples of projects completed, or in progression, will highlight how good practice of Design Risk Management meets the requirements of specific legislation without being bogged down in the detail. This presentation will be dynamic and provide specific time for delegates to present project issues they are currently working on for brief and open discussion.

Financing conservation projects

This seminar will cover the following points:
• What makes some historic buildings fall into disuse whilst others remain highly valued?
• Calculating required finances to repair and refurbish historic buildings – the conservation deficit
• Sources of funding
• Convincing investors
• Trust Partnerships
• Programming and phasing projects for financial health
• Enabling developments.
The speaker will use the case study of Bank Hall, a ruined house in Lancashire, to illustrate some of these points.

Social media for architects

Over the past four years, there has been an explosion in the ways that you can use the internet to reach out to new clients and remain in contact with your existing client base. These encompass the established search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo, plus the free and paid for results that are associated with them through to online forums, Social media – such as Facebook and Twitter, email marketing and on to new ideas such as location based marketing opportunities.
