This outdoor centre has been built for a local authority by its in-house architects. It provides camping, residential and day visit facilities, allowing children and young people to experience archery, climbing and aerialism in the beautiful environment of what feels like virgin forest but is in fact a hop and a skip from Farnborough Airfield: hence, one assumes, its name.
There is a barn-like activities centre, an open lavatory and shower block, and a courtyard residential building. All is admirably arranged with due provision for child protection issues and exemplary accessibility.
The whole complex is powered from an energy centre using a biomass plant, some of the woodchip coming from the surrounding woodland. This is just one aspect of a comprehensively thought through approach to sustainability.
