This is a modest scheme for a stunning collection. The architects were appointed in 1999 to develop a masterplan for the Ashmolean, to provide more space and 21st century facilities for its collections. Phase One was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize in 2010.
Phase Two of the masterplan involved the extension and renovation of the Egypt Galleries.
The work, which is done with the architects’ always meticulous attention to detail, completes the circular route, so the Egyptian story can, for the first time, be narrated in historical sequence.
