The clients wanted a house to suit their outdoor lifestyle. The result caters equally well for wetsuits and al fresco dining. A masonry base supports a light, transversely arranged red cedar clad box that cantilevers over each side of the base. The staircase which slides up the outside of the building is enclosed with frameless glazing to act as a lantern.

The energy strategy involves a highly insulated envelope, a wood burning stove and an air source heat pump for underfloor heating.
