Planning required the retention of the old house and that the visual prominence of the development be minimised. The old house has been gutted, providing open-plan living in a double-height volume. A lovely varnished plywood stair can be read through obscured glass. Bedrooms are in a new single-storey wing at the rear of a wonderful 60 metre long roof glazed gallery. This is a fine example of making a silk purse from a sow’s ear.
