Student prizes awarded in the south east
RIBA members enjoy active roles at all five Schools of Architecture in the south east. The regional office encourages member involvement at the schools through the student mentoring scheme| and through support of student prizes, which are judged by the local RIBA Branches.
Brighton
RIBA Sussex Prize
Awarded to celebrate the talent of architecture students at the university and to reward them in the pursuit of excellence in the study of architecture. Prizes are awarded to finalists at Part 1 and Part 2.
Kent
RIBA Canterbury & District/RIBA West Kent Prize
Awarded to celebrate the talent of architecture students at the university and to reward them in the pursuit of excellence in the study of architecture. Prizes are awarded to finalists at Part 1 and Part 2.
Oxford Brookes
RIBA Oxford Prize
Awarded by RIBA Oxford Branch to the first-year BA student who shows the most progress.
Leslie Jones Memorial Prize
Awarded by RIBA South to the student nominated by the Head of School as showing the most progress in building construction.
RIBA South Prize
Awarded to the Diploma-year student of architecture who, in the opinion of the judging panel, has achieved the highest standard of all-round excellence.
Portsmouth
Ronald Barrington-Smith Prize
Awarded to the fifth-year student of architecture and Student Member of the RIBA who, in the opinion of the judges on the recommendation of the Head of School, is most likely to benefit from meaningful foreign travel in the furtherance of his/her architectural education.
RIBA Hampshire Prize
Awarded by RIBA Hampshire Branch to a third-year student/Final Degree student for all-round excellence.
RIBA South Prize
Awarded to the Diploma year student of architecture who, in the opinion of the judging panel, has achieved the highest standard of all-round excellence.
UCA Canterbury
RIBA Canterbury & District/RIBA West Kent Prize
Awarded to celebrate the talent of architecture students at the university and to reward them in the pursuit of excellence in the study of architecture. Prizes are awarded to finalists at Part 1 and Part 2.
In addition to the prizes awarded at Schools of Architecture, RIBA Branches in the south east support excellence in construction and craft.
The Conrad Birdwood Willcocks Prize is awarded by the Berkshire Society of Architects for overall excellence in performance on the Construction and the Built Environment courses at Reading College. The Berkshire Society of Architects relaunched the Prize at the College in 2012| and commemorated 125 years since the birth of Willcocks, the Society’s founder.
