Lincoln Grove, Bladon, Building Visit

01 July 2008

3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Venue:

Bladon, Oxfordshire

Description:

RIBA South and RIBA South Green Group invite you to a building tour of Lincoln Grove, Bladon, Oxfordshire with Richard Ladenburg of ALP Architects and Tony Woodward of Kingerlee Homes.

The site occupies a former quarry, close to the listed wall enclosing Blenheim Park and is situated within a Conservation Area.

The houses have all achieved an Ecohomes rating of 'Excellent'. The houses are built of traditional concrete footings with a beam and block suspended floor. The external walls are built of a highly efficient cellular clay block – faced in natural stone or render. The suspended timber first floor and rafters are composite I-beams whose webs are made from waste timber products.

Roof insulation is blown cellulose (recycled newspaper) and the roofs employ a sarking board made from recycled wood fibre. Each house was pressure tested for airtightness. All light fittings are low energy and all cabling is in zero ozone depleting materials. All water appliances have water saving features and each house has a small woodburning stove and a solar water heating panel. The developer client has arranged metering and monitoring programmes to measure energy use and performance.

Join Richard Ladenburg of ALP Architects for a tour of the housing development followed by a walk to the site office where Tony Woodward of Kingerlee Homes will give a short presentation. Tea and coffee will be served during the presentation.

Fees:

£10 + VAT (£11.75) will be charged for the building tour
