02 June 2009
Venue:
Green Park, Reading
Description:
The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations have placed significant statutory health and safety obligations on designers in the construction industry. Architects must consider the health, safety and welfare of those who construct, maintain and indeed use buildings as a place of work. They must also take into account those who may be affected by such activities.
This lecture will focus on the practical application of this legislation and discuss just how far the architect needs to go when considering occupational health and safety. The law accepts that architects have other considerations on each project but falls short of any prescriptive methodology for design risk management.
The speaker will suggest that CDM compliance is no more than good design and an integral element of buildability and maintainability. Focusing on hazard identification examples of good design practice, this event will demystify CDM and give all attendees the confidence to practically comply.
This event will also feature a presentation on 'Finding Design from Nature' from our sponsors, InterfaceFLOR . InterfaceFLOR specialise in the design, manufacture and supply of carpet tiles for both commercial and residential uses and work extensively with interior designers and architects who need the special combination of style and practicality that modular flooring delivers.
