Cornerstone is a new Arts Centre in Didcot, designed by Ellis Williams Architects for South Oxfordshire District Council as the centrepiece to the town centre redevelopment and opened in September 2008.
The brief was for an arts centre providing for needs expressed by localpeople in Didcot, particularly in amateur music, dance and drama performance. The building includes a 260-seater multipurpose auditorium as well as practice and arts development rooms for art, drame and dance and a visual arts exhibition space.
The design concept was a building that acts as a 'public room' in the town centrem, which is open and approachable and actively demonstrates the arts actiivities within.
