The current requirement for publicly funded housing in England and Wales is to attain Code for Sustainable Homes level 3. The Department of Communities and Local Government promotes the CfSH as a single national standard to guide industry in the design and construction of new homes. DCLG also aims to enable all new homes to be Zero Carbon by 2016. To do this it is important to understand what is involved in achieving the higher levels of the Code in progression from levels 4, 5 and 6.

This seminar is based on the latest Code for Sustainable Guidance published November 2010 and will cover:

• a brief overview of all the credits in each category and the design considerations that they entail.
• a case study that attained Code level 5 at the design stage and look at the breakdown of design features.
• an interactive exercise to find out what needs to change for a CfSH level 3 scheme to move to the Code 5/6 level.
