Description:
The seminar will look to explain the challenges and opportunities of development in rural communities and the support to facilitate self build development. The seminar aims to:
Explain the HCA’s role in supporting local authorities and developers and the progress with the Government’s Action Plan for Self Build Housing
Provide the strategic context for the Affordable Housing Programme and in particular explain the recently launched £30m investment fund to support self build
Explain the challenges of development and principles of viability of development and how a collaborative and often multi funded approach has delivered success.

Speaker: Ken Glendinning, Head of Area for Surrey and Sussex, Homes and Communities Agency
Ken joined the HCA in 2010 as Head of Area. Previously, he was Head of Major Projects at the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, leading the team responsible for the borough’s regeneration and major economic development projects, including Earls Court and White City Opportunity Area.
Prior to 2008, he was the Deputy Director of Development at the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation where he led the Government’s strategic delivery including physical investment in the Lower Lea Valley and its interface with the emerging 2012 Olympics site.
Ken was also Head of Land & Property at SEEDA. At the Regional Development Agency he was responsible for public sector investment in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire. Before joining SEEDA on secondment in 2000, he worked for 12 years for Portsmouth City Council on major property and economic development initiatives across the city, including the City Centre North and the Tipner Renewal Area.
