Description:
This seminar will take a brief look at the geology of clays, their extraction and methods of manufacture, the history and development of brick, types and styles of brickwork and provide an aid to its dating.
Using cases studies, the seminar will discuss:
-
some of the more common problems, both structural and contractual and the importance of mortars and pointing;
-
methods of repair and the approach to these repairs (restoration, conservation or refurbishment);
-
the importance and need to explain clearly from the outset what is required by the contractor/craftsman;
-
ensure that work is set out before going ahead and trial panels are produced for approval.
