RIBA South East works closely with a range of statutory bodies and other professional organisations in the Region, as well as enjoying mutually beneficial relationships with our sponsors. We regularly run conferences which are supported by the South East England Development Agency| as a funding partner.
With the Royal Town Planning Institute| in the South East, we have run a series of informal dialogues between architects and planners about the new planning system. We are now establishing design panels in local authorities in the region; and are working with RIBA HQ, the RTPI and CABE| to set up a national network of local design review panels.
The Regional Office acts as secretariat for CIC South East|; and played a pivotal role in initiating and steering through a Memorandum of Understanding for 14 construction industry professional institutes across the south east to co-ordinate their approaches to CPD, policy issues and recruitment.
We have been involved with Action for Sustainability, a day for built environment professions to learn about practical solutions for sustainable construction. Action for Sustainability was run by the Construction Industry Council| in conjunction with the South East Centre for the Built Environment|, in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Building|, Construction Skills| and the South East England Development Agency|.
During 2009 RIBA South East is working with the Solent Centre for Architecture + Design| to co-ordinate the South East Festival of Architecture|, the celebration of architecture in the south east. In previous years, we organised Architecture Week and architecture08 on behalf of Arts Council England South East|. We also work with the Kent Architecture Centre| on a variety of conferences and events in the region.
