RIBA South West administers the
RIBA Awards| for the region, and the RIBA South West and Wessex Town and Country Design Awards, organising the shortlisting panels and jury visits to the buildings to assess their eligibility for the award in question.
RIBA Awards
RIBA Awards are national awards organised and judged on the basis of the RIBA regions in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for exemplary projects. RIBA Awards juries assess design excellence irrespective of the style, size or complexity of a project, and take into account constraints on budget, brief and timetable.
RIBA South West and Wessex Town and Country Design Awards
This award scheme looks at the impact of new and converted buildings on both rural and urban settings and aims to highlight the contributions made by talented architects who are working in the south west.
The Cornwall Architectural Awards
Cornwall is a rural county of beautiful and varied landscapes, and the design of buildings, in both countryside and towns, should seek to complement these qualities. The aim of these awards is to identify and acknowledge recent outstanding examples of good design which meet these objectives. This award scheme is organised by the Cornish branches of the CPRE and RIBA Cornwall branch.
RIBA South West also holds information on other architectural awards in Devon and Cornwall and publicises them to RIBA members.
Local Architecture Awards
Cornish Buildings Group Annual Awards
The Cornish Buildings Group was established in 1969 to "encourage the protection and repair of historic buildings" and to "encourage good architecture of today".
With that aim in mind the Annual Awards scheme was introduced almost 30 years ago to give public recognition to the best conversion or restoration of an old building and the best new building. A Delabole slate plaque and a framed certificate are presented to the winners, and certificates to all commendees.
The Awards Ceremony itself is an enjoyable and sociable early summer event and the customary display of the submitted entries goes on to be shown throughout Cornwall at 10 monthly venues (normally libraries). There is no entry fee, and no limit on how many entries may be submitted by each entrant.
