Description:
Part 1 - An Exotic Romp thro' the Decorative Plasterwork of the British Isles
This romp starts in the castles of the early 17th century Scottish Renaissance including Edinburgh and ends with the late Rococo of Windsor Castle, travelling via the Georgian Triumphs of Prior Park, Bath and Uppark. It looks at the fashion of each period, and the means available to render it. It studies the technology in depth, and shows the importance of understanding materials and technique intimately as what we inherit today is as much a function of the constraints of the time as of the fashion. This talk gives a thorough grounding in understanding decorative plasterwork throughout the ages
Part 2 - Mortars, Plasters & Renders
The second part looks at that vast panoply of decorative & plain plaster coatings that cover our historic buildings, internally & externally. It covers ground more likely to be encountered in the real world of everyday repair. It deals with the humbler plasters & renders, discusses specification and shows many different approaches to conservation, repair & replacement
