About the region

RIBA West Midlands region is committed to delivering services to RIBA members to enable them to work effectively as competent professionals, and to promote architecture, good design, and public interest in the built environment. This is achieved through a range of activities which include:

Clients service

Working together with the comprehensive data base at RIBA HQ, the regional office is able to offer local knowledge on the selection and appointment of registered practices in the West Midlands. Many practices have expertise in specialist topics of direct relevance not only to clients but also to other architects. Examples of these include:

  • Listed buildings: conservation and adaptation
  • Specific building types such as operating theatres and football stadia
  • Highly glazed buildings and Part L: statutory compliance

The regional office enables direct access to a powerful network of diverse expertise, just telephone 0121 233 2321.

CPD West Midlands

Chartered architects are required to maintain their professional competence throughout their careers. The CPD unit provides a full range of events, specialist consultancy advice and services directed towards satisfying the individual's professional development, but also relevant to the management of staff training in relation to practice evolution and growth.

Promotion of architecture

The annual RIBA Awards for architecture, which give public recognition to examples of outstanding design, and a series of talks and exhibitions illustrating the work of West Midlands practices all aim to promote quality of architectural design. The development of MADE (Midlands Architecture & Designed Environment) and Urban Vision North Staffordshire encourage public participation and stimulate interest in architecture and quality design through schools programmes, exhibitions, talks and events designed to appeal to the widest audience.

AREA - regional magazine

Our principal means of communication with 2,000 members and clients, this magazine is published quarterly. Working closely with sponsors we combine technical advice with articles of topical interest, a diary of CPD and other cultural events, RIBA news and coverage of branch activities.

Cultural events

A network of seven branches across the region provides a comprehensive range of exhibitions and presentations open to members and the public, with an impressive range of international speakers and home grown talent to inspire and inform.

Careers advice

Advice to schools is provided by members happy to participate in careers events. The regional office can provide exhibition panels and leaflets for events, including details of recognised schools of architecture.
