RIBA West Midlands in 2013
The year ahead is looking even more active and engaging than 2012. Here are some highlights to look out for...
The team that brought you Showcase in 2011 (BAA, RIBA WM, Trove and AEDAS) is once again working together in organising an art and architecture festival that will be held in Birmingham's former Municipal Bank on Broad Street. Thrift Radiates Happiness will be open 13 - 17 March.
The new RIBA Plan of Work 2013 will be launched in May. First developed in 1963, over 50 years ago, the RIBA Plan of Work has been the definitive UK model for the building design and construction process. There will be a series of national and regional events around the launch so that you are up to date.
Love Architecture Festival returns between 21 - 30 June and plans are already being developed for activities/events across the region. If you have an idea for an activity/event you would like to run, please get in touch with the regional office.
There was a great level of Branch activity across the region last year, with many activities being funded through the RIBA's Local Initiative Fund (LIF). Branch activity will continue to grow in 2013 through the involvement and support of members. I encourage you to get along to the branch events planned in 2013 - they are a great way to meet with members in your area, get involved in the local architectural community and find out and have a say in what's happening in the RIBA nationally. To find out more on what's happening in the local branches, keep up to date by registering on the ArchitectureWM website.
The RIBA are also continuing their Membership and Communications Review with members throughout 2013. This includes the redevelopment of the RIBA's website, which is planned to be launched towards the end of 2013. There is an online survey, which will enable you to have your say on the website.

Gavin Orton said about his regional chairmanship for the RIBA:
'I am very honoured to have been elected as RIBA West Midlands Regional Chair and look forward to working with and supporting local members, branches, the RIBA West Midlands office and the wider architectural and construction profession.
There is a wealth of great architecture within our region, which needs to be promoted. It is through the commitment and passion of RIBA architects, working alongside visionary clients and the skilled construction profession, that excellent buildings and communities are being delivered within our region.'
